Scan homework and add photos or files

How to scan a problem with the iPhone camera, crop it, and get a step-by-step solution, and how to attach photos, PDFs, and documents in AI Chat.

You can show BrainBoost a problem instead of typing it. On iPhone the Scan tab uses the camera. On any device you can attach photos and files to a chat message.

Scan a problem on iPhone

  1. Open the Scan tab. The first time, tap Allow Camera.
  2. Pick a subject chip if you like (General, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Accounting, History, English, Psychology, or Statistics). It helps the answer use the right method.
  3. Hold the phone flat over the page and tap the shutter. Use the flashlight in dim light, or choose Photo library to use a picture you already took.
  4. Drag the crop box around one problem, then tap Done cropping. Tap Skip crop to keep the whole photo, or Discard photo to try again.
  5. Read the step-by-step solution. Tap Ask a follow-up to continue in AI Chat about any step.

Tips for a clean scan

  • Use even light and avoid shadows across the page.
  • Crop to one problem. A crowded page leads to misreads.
  • Check that the problem was read correctly before studying the solution. One wrong exponent changes the answer.

Attach photos and files in AI Chat

  1. In AI Chat, tap + in the composer.
  2. Choose Photos for images, or Add files for PDFs, documents, and study sheets. On iPhone, Camera takes a new photo.
  3. Type what you want to know about the attachment, for example "Explain question 3" or "Summarize this chapter," and send.

On the web there is no camera option; take the photo with your phone or upload a file from your computer.

Limits

Free accounts can send up to 5 messages with attachments a day, with up to 3 photos and 3 files per message. Premium raises that to 100 a day, with up to 6 photos and 6 files per message. Each message with attachments uses one of your daily AI uses.
