This Privacy Policy explains how BrainBoost (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use BrainBoost: AI Study Assistant (the “App” or “Service”) on iOS, Android, and web, including https://brainbooststudy.com. By using BrainBoost, you agree to these practices.
Who we are (data controller)
BrainBoost operates the BrainBoost learning platform at brainbooststudy.com. For privacy questions, data subject requests (access, deletion, correction, portability), advertising opt-outs, or complaints, email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com with subject “Privacy Inquiry.” We are the data controller for personal information processed through the App, except where a third-party service (Apple, Google, AdMob, AdSense, Stripe, RevenueCat, OpenRouter, Composio, Microsoft, Netlify, and others listed below) processes data under its own policy.
We do not currently publish a physical street mailing address. Please contact us by email. For App Store developer contact details, see the BrainBoost product page in the Apple App Store.
1. Information we collect
Sign in with Apple or Google is optional. If you sign in, usage and subscription can be tracked across devices and reinstalls. On first launch we create an anonymous Supabase session so security, usage limits, subscriptions, and background work can function without Apple or Google sign-in.
- Account information (optional): If you sign in with Apple or Google, Apple may share your name (if you choose) and a private relay email; Google may share your name and email. We do not collect or store your Apple ID or Google password. We store your Supabase user ID and link it to usage and subscription.
- Anonymous session: An anonymous authentication session and device identifier for quotas, ads, abuse prevention, and continuity.
- Academic profile (optional): School or university name, school type, class/course names, and optional class notes or syllabus text you attach to a class in onboarding or Profile. Stored on your device and, when you use AI chat, sent with your request so answers can be personalized. This is voluntary self-reported context—not an official school record, transcript, or FERPA education record.
- AI memory: BrainBoost already uses the school, classes, and name you enter in onboarding or Profile so answers fit your courses. For signed-in (non-anonymous) accounts, we may also store structured personalization preferences in our cloud database—such as academic level, explanation style, response length, preferred name or language, subjects, and optionally school/class labels—and apply them silently to future AI chats (the model is instructed not to mention this memory unless you ask about personalization). AI memory does not store chat transcripts, homework, grades, or attachments as long-term memory. Guest sessions do not sync durable cloud memory. You can clear saved memory or delete your account.
- Learning content: Homework scan photos; AI tutor questions; calculator inputs; quiz and flashcard inputs; image prompts; Premium study-video prompts (OpenRouter / ByteDance Seedance); content you add by link, file, photo, camera, or paste for Import and Summarize, Study Plan, Style & Tone Refiner / Humanizer, and AI Detector; syllabus text; audio or video for Transcribe Notes (Premium); and Study Set materials (guide, notes, flashcards, quiz, podcast, tutor, games, detector).
- Camera, photos, microphone, files, and URLs: Optional permissions for scanner, imports, attachments, voice dictation, and audio import. We may fetch public page content from URLs you paste and extract text from images, PDFs, and documents (OCR) on-device or server-side so the AI can read them.
- Connected plugins (optional): If you connect a third-party account through Composio (for example Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Calendar, Classroom, Forms, Slack, Notion, GitHub, YouTube, Discord, Dropbox, Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Linear, Jira, Confluence, Airtable, Salesforce, HubSpot, Trello, Asana, Todoist, ClickUp, Figma, LinkedIn, Zoom, or Stripe), we store connection identifiers needed to run tools you request. We do not receive your third-party password. When you use a plugin, relevant chat context and the tool request are sent to Composio and then to that provider. BrainBoost is not those companies.
- Study data: Study plans, flashcard decks, Study Sets, tutor chat, podcast scripts, and review progress are primarily stored on your device. Source material and generated results may be stored temporarily in private backend job storage during background generation or recovery.
- Notifications: Study-reminder choices stored locally. If enabled, a push token may be sent so we can notify you when background Study Set generation finishes.
- Subscription data: Payment card numbers are processed by Apple In-App Purchase, Google Play, or Stripe (web, with RevenueCat entitlements) and are not stored by BrainBoost. We receive tier, entitlement, renewal, and purchase-status information. Current U.S. list prices are Weekly $5.99, Monthly $19.99, and Yearly $149.99; the storefront shows the price charged, which may vary by region, currency, or tax.
- Usage analytics: Feature name, success or failure, processing time, subscription-status flag, account or anonymous identifiers, and limited technical metadata. These events do not include the homework or chat text submitted to the AI.
- Voice: Mic dictation audio is sent to our servers for speech-to-text. We do not use voice data for biometric identification.
- Chat history: Sessions saved on your device unless incognito is enabled. Optional “Save for later” bookmarks in Profile.
- Document library: Copies of files and AI documents you save (chat artifacts, study-set exports, and similar) are stored on your device. The library is capped at 40 documents, each truncated to about 24,000 characters. When the cap is reached, older items may be dropped. This is on-device storage, not a cloud drive. Uninstalling or clearing app/site data removes it.
1a. Where data is stored
On your device: Study sets, flashcard decks, study plans, chat sessions (unless incognito), notification settings, tutorial progress, academic profile, plugin connection snapshots, and imported file copies may be stored locally (including browser localStorage on web).
In the cloud: When you use AI features, sign in, subscribe, sync usage, sync AI-memory preferences, connect plugins, or start background generation, data is sent to our Supabase backend and the service providers described below. Uninstalling or clearing site data removes local data but does not automatically delete cloud records. Use Profile → Account → Delete Account or email us to request account deletion.
We do not sell personal information for money. Our advertising providers may process device identifiers and ad activity for delivery, measurement, and—where permitted and consented to—personalization. Some privacy laws define that disclosure as “sharing” or “targeted advertising.” You can decline iOS tracking permission and use applicable device or Google ad controls.
2. How we use your information
- Process homework scans and provide AI-generated solutions.
- Power AI chat, calculator, Study Sets (guide, notes, flashcards, quiz, podcast, tutor, games, detector), Style & Tone / Humanizer, AI Detector, image generation, Premium study video, Transcribe Notes, Import and Summarize, and Study Plan.
- Run optional Composio plugins you connect, sending the tool request and needed context to Composio and the connected service.
- Personalize AI answers using your optional academic profile and, for signed-in users, structured AI-memory preferences.
- Transcribe voice input, extract text from images or PDFs (OCR), and fetch public pages from URLs you provide.
- Send local study reminders when enabled; notify you of finished background jobs.
- Manage subscriptions, billing, restore purchases, and Premium entitlements (auto-renewing Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly plans).
- Show ads to free users (AdMob on native; AdSense on web) and grant rewarded-ad bonuses on iOS/Android.
- Detect abuse, enforce daily limits, and protect the Service.
- Improve reliability through aggregated analytics (we do not use your homework or chat content to train third-party foundation models).
3. Data security
- Encryption: HTTPS/TLS in transit and at rest where supported by our providers.
- Access control: Authentication, database access policies, scoped credentials, and rate limits.
- Payments: We never store credit card numbers; Apple, Google, or Stripe process payments.
- No system can guarantee absolute security.
- Security incidents: If we become aware of a breach of personal information we hold, we will notify you and regulators as required by applicable law.
3a. AI and third-party AI services
What we send: When you use AI features, we send photos, questions, files, pasted text, links, image and video prompts, audio/video for transcription, academic-profile / AI-memory labels when enabled, and study-set material to our AI providers so they can return results. Podcast playback may send script text to Microsoft Edge neural voices (primary) or OpenAI neural TTS (fallback). Premium study video sends prompts and related study context through OpenRouter to ByteDance Seedance models.
Who receives it: OpenRouter and model partners such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, and ByteDance/Seedance as available. Plugin actions are additionally sent to Composio and the connected third-party service. We do not sell your data.
How collected: When you scan, chat, calculate, import, generate images or video, connect or run a plugin, or upload media. Submitting content to an AI feature authorizes the processing needed to return that result.
Uses: Generate the requested output, operate and safeguard features, troubleshoot failures, and comply with law. BrainBoost does not sell your learning content or use it to train foundation models. Providers may retain requests briefly for abuse monitoring under their policies. See openrouter.ai/privacy and the applicable model provider’s policy.
Stopping AI processing: Stop submitting content, uninstall the App, delete your account (Profile → Account → Delete Account), or email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com.
3b. Automated processing and AI accuracy
AI accuracy disclaimer. BrainBoost AI can make mistakes. Outputs are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or confidently wrong. They are for educational study assistance only—not legal, medical, mental-health, financial, or other professional advice—and are not used to make legally binding decisions about you.
- Homework Scanner / OCR can misread handwriting, diagrams, faded ink, or low-quality photos; wrong reads produce wrong solutions.
- Chat, tutor, and Learning Hub answers can contain errors even when phrased confidently.
- Math solutions, quizzes, summaries, study plans, and calculator steps may include critical mistakes.
- Image, media, or Seedance study-video generation may produce incorrect diagrams or inappropriate imagery despite filters.
- AI Detector scores are estimates only—not definitive authorship findings for schools or employers.
- Style & Tone / Humanizer tools do not guarantee originality, “undetectable” text, or academic honesty outcomes. They are not for cheating or misrepresenting authorship.
- Verify important information with reliable sources, instructors, or a qualified professional before submitting graded work.
3c. Schools and FERPA
BrainBoost is a consumer study app, not a school or “educational agency or institution” under FERPA. We do not claim FERPA compliance as a school records system. Optional school/class labels are self-reported study context, not official education records maintained by your institution.
4. Third-party services
- OpenRouter + model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, ByteDance Seedance as available): process content you submit to AI features, including OCR and study video.
- Composio (optional plugins): brokers OAuth and tool execution for Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Calendar, Slack, Notion, GitHub, and other listed tools. BrainBoost is not those companies and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by them unless expressly stated. Disconnect in Chat → Plugins.
- Sign in with Apple / Google: optional authentication.
- Supabase: backend, auth, database, and usage tracking.
- RevenueCat: in-app subscriptions, paywall, restore; may receive device identifiers and purchase status.
- Apple App Store / Google Play: in-app purchase payments.
- Google advertising: AdMob serves native rewarded and occasional interstitial ads; AdSense may serve non-rewarded display ads on web. Rewarded ads are iOS/Android only, capped at 10 per day. Google may process consent choices, device identifiers, and ad-interaction data.
- Microsoft Edge neural TTS (primary) and OpenAI TTS (fallback) for Study Set podcasts.
- Stripe: web payments (PCI DSS).
- Netlify: hosts brainbooststudy.com and static legal pages; may process technical logs and CDN telemetry.
- Expo: push notifications and over-the-air JavaScript updates.
4c. Subprocessors (service vendors)
Depending on features you use, personal information may be processed by: Supabase; OpenRouter and its model partners; Google (Sign in, AdMob, AdSense, optional Google plugins); Apple (Sign in, App Store, App Tracking Transparency); Stripe and RevenueCat; Microsoft (Edge TTS); Composio; Netlify; and Expo. Each vendor’s privacy policy governs that vendor’s processing.
4a. Advertising
The free tier is ad-supported. Free users receive 20 flexible uses per day and may see native rewarded ads (watch an ad to earn +2 uses; maximum 10 rewarded ads per day), occasional native interstitials, and non-rewarded web display ads. Google AdMob provides native ads; Google AdSense provides web display ads. We request applicable Google consent before native ad requests and currently request non-personalized native and web ads. On iOS you may decline App Tracking Transparency. Web display ads never grant usage rewards. Premium subscribers do not see ads.
4b. Usage limits
Limits reset at midnight in your local timezone and are tracked by device and, when signed in, by account.

5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell personal information for money. We disclose data to service providers to operate the App; to Google for ads as described; when required by law; to protect against fraud or abuse; and in a merger or sale (users will be notified).
6. Your privacy rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, or a portable copy of eligible personal information by emailing thebrainboost2025@gmail.com. You may also delete your account in the App: Profile → Account → Delete Account. Control AI Memory: school and class labels live in Profile; signed-in users may manage or clear structured AI-memory preferences. BrainBoost does not keep a separate memory of chat transcripts, homework, grades, or attachments. We do not currently send marketing email; support, security, purchase, or account messages may still be sent.
Account deletion removes the cloud account and account-linked content targeted by the deletion flow. Limited transaction, entitlement, device-usage, fraud-prevention, security, and legal-compliance records may be retained where necessary. Local data remains until you uninstall the App or clear its data.
6a. California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents may have rights to know, access, delete, correct, and obtain a copy of personal information, to opt out of “sale” or “sharing,” and to non-discriminatory treatment. We do not sell personal information for money. AdMob / AdSense disclosures may be considered “sharing” under California law when used for cross-context behavioral advertising. Decline App Tracking Transparency on iOS, use device or Google ad controls, or email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com with subject “California Privacy Request.” You may use an authorized agent if you provide written permission and we can verify both identities, except where the law lets us require you to use our process.
Categories of personal information we may collect, depending on how you use the Service: identifiers (email if you sign in; account/device/session IDs); commercial information (subscription and purchase-status); internet or electronic activity (feature-usage events that do not include homework or chat text); user content you submit (photos, files, prompts, voice for dictation); inferences or preferences you set (academic profile and AI-memory labels); and approximate technical data (app version, language, device type). We do not intentionally collect precise geolocation, government IDs, or biometric templates. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you for cross-context advertising.
California “Shine the Light” (Civil Code § 1798.83): we do not disclose personal information to third parties for those parties’ direct marketing. We have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing personal information of consumers under 16.
6b. EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Legal bases include contract (providing the Service), consent (AI processing, optional sign-in, optional plugins), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, analytics), and legal obligations. You may access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your data, object to certain processing including targeted advertising where applicable, and withdraw consent. We do not currently appoint a named Data Protection Officer; email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com. You may lodge a complaint with your local authority (for example the ICO in the UK).
6c. Other U.S. state privacy laws
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights to access, delete, correct, or opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. We do not sell personal information for money. Email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com with subject “State Privacy Request.”
7. Children’s privacy (COPPA)
Age 13+ requirement. The App is not directed to children under 13. By using BrainBoost, you represent that you are at least 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. We do not sell personal information of children. If we learn that an under-13 user provided personal information, we will restrict access and delete applicable data. We do not currently use a hard age-verification gate beyond this policy and related account controls. Parents should email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com immediately.
8. Data retention
- Active accounts: retained while the account is active.
- Deleted accounts: account-linked content targeted by deletion is deleted or de-identified promptly, subject to technical processing time and lawful exceptions.
- Uninstall vs account delete: uninstalling or clearing site data removes local storage only. Cloud account, quota, entitlements, AI-memory preferences, and temporary job storage are not automatically deleted.
- AI providers: may retain prompts and outputs briefly for abuse monitoring under their policies.
- Operational / legal records: transaction, entitlement, quota, security, fraud-prevention, backup, and legal-compliance records as reasonably necessary.
9. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. We rely on provider data-processing terms and transfer safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses where required, and other lawful mechanisms under applicable privacy law.
10. Cookies, localStorage, and tracking
On the web Service we use cookies and browser localStorage / sessionStorage. Mobile apps use on-device storage (including AsyncStorage), SDK identifiers, and authentication tokens.
- Essential / localStorage: auth and anonymous session tokens; usage identifiers; tutorial and last-path state; academic profile; chat history (unless incognito); Study Sets; plugin connection snapshots.
- Advertising: AdMob / AdSense may set or read advertising cookies or device identifiers. We currently request non-personalized ads.
- Analytics / performance: limited technical events to operate and secure the Service.
Clearing cookies or site data does not delete cloud account records. Disabling essential storage may prevent sign-in or saved study materials from working.
Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control: We honor legally required opt-out signals where we can reasonably detect them, including Global Privacy Control (GPC) for “sale” or “sharing” / targeted advertising where applicable. Browser “Do Not Track” is not uniformly implemented across the industry; use device, browser, and Google ad controls as well. We currently request non-personalized ads.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be noted by updating the effective date and, where required, by email or in-app notice or consent. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
